In females, a prolapse denotes the pelvic organs protruding into the vagina. This may be an anterior prolapse (cystocele), where the bladder bulges in the front portion of the vagina; or a prolapse of the womb and cervix on top of the vagina or posterior wall prolapse (rectocele or enterocele) where the bowel swells into the vagina.
Prolapse is instigated by the flagging of materials that provide the pelvic organs.
